Do I need a pesticide applicators license from the Department of Agriculture in order to perform WDI/WDO inspections in Pennsylvania? Is this just for HUD/FHA?

I believe it is something the underwriters typically look for on HUD loans, but otherwise not required in Pennsylvania.

The last time I knew was a few years ago, so things may have changed, I sent a message off to Jason D'Amato to come here and comment since he is licensed there and could give a clarification.

If it is the case still that no license is required for the non-HUD transactions, I'd still go and get it for two reasons:

1. It's easy and gives you credibility.
2. If you don't have it you end up leaving the cert # field blank on the forms, which may get called into question occasionally.

You are supposed to have the core and general pest section of the licensing complete to do the NPMA 33 form required by the banks however what most people do is put there association number in where the licensing number goes on the form and roll the dice.
I have my license from the state but can also apply pest control chemicals which is a great ancillary service and continuous income.

So if there's no HUD loan...no licensing for pest inspection?

Jason and Nathan, thank you for the information. I really appreciate it. I have taken a WDI/WDO class at a local college and have been performing WDI/WDO inspections for over a year; however, I recently received a call from a loan underwriter requesting my certification number from the PA DOA. According to this underwriter, for FHA/HUD/VA a pesticide applicator's license from the PA DOA is required. I was not aware the loan was a FHA loan prior to my inspection.

Regardless of whether this is true or not, I will begin the process of acquiring this license. At the very least, like Nathan said, it can only help my "credibility."

Thanks again! Brian
