I use HIP.

I do not like idea of separate electrical section for Grounds, Exterior, Garage, Interior, Bathrooms, Kitchen, etc.

Seems like way too much redundancy. Same goes for Plumbing.

How are others setting up their templates? I am looking to cut data entry time while still being thorough.

At the same time it is probably more useful to have the Summary organize all elec, plumbing, etc issues together for ease of comprehension.

What say you?

The mandatory Texas report form is sectioned "by trade" rather than by say "room." Can't speak to other software, but Whisper has a "work view" where you can set up the sections in the same order you inspect it, (say room-by-room,) input your pics and defect statements as you go, then when done, simply hit "report view," and it re-organizes all your data, into the "trade sections" format Texas requires. Does that help, Pete?

I used to do room by room but now I do it by system. The electrical section is divided up by outlets, switches, light fixtures, ceiling fans, exhaust fans, smoke detectors, etc. If there is a specific outlet that is not wired correctly I use colored stickers that I put on the outlet to show which one it is that is not wired right and I will also use a directional system for the bedrooms such as "Main Floor North Bedroom" with a picture of the room for identification purposes.

Same goes for the plumbing fixtures and the bathrooms are noted as "Main Floor Full Bathroom" or "Basement 3/4 Bathroom". The doors and windows are also by system and will be noted as, for example, "Main floor north bedroom door did not latch properly. Recommend repair."

There is a sample report on my website. It's old now, but I think it is pretty close to what I do today.
