FAQ: How does the Radalink Radon Protection Plan Work?

Each and every day we field dozens of calls from agents and buyers and about half a dozen from inspectors/radon testing professionals about the Radon Protection Plan (administered by RWS, exclusively from Radalink).

Here are the most frequent questions we get:

1. How much does it cost?

It's free with every test from Radalink. In fact, Terry Howell didn't even change the pricing when he started paying for this service. He runs an incredible business and really backs up his users.

2. How does it work in general?

Radalink offers the only guaranteed accurate results in Radon, and here's how:

If the test comes back high, then it needs to be fixed...but if it comes back low (even at 3.9 Pci/L) and you want to retest after closing we will pay for mitigation if it comes back high. That simple.

3. What kind of test qualifies for the retest?

Really any professional level test qualifies, but we are no questions asked on a Radalink retest (we literally sell thousands of retests annually because of this policy). An alpha track is fine, and really other tests would most likely be fine as well. If another CRM is utilized, we may ask for the tape to audit. Only once so far did we throw a test out due to fraud (the retest was done by a mitigator fishing for work, and his interpretation was way off).

4. Is it extendable?

Yes, it is per the policy at $9.00 a month. Do we "sell" this extension? Absolutely not. No phone calls, no emails, but we do get people coming back to us to ask for it. They simply call the number on the policy. Probably 95% of the takers on plan extensions are relocation clients that will likely move in the next 24-36 months and they don't want to get stuck with the bill if levels change before they move again.

How long does the warranty last without the extension?

I don't know how people rent 6-10 machines for $150 a month EACH. I'd have to do a lot more radon tests to make any money.

I'd like to get into Radon testing. I took both of InterNACHI's courses on the subject and it burned me out both times. I'd like to find an easier way. Example: Radalink salesman shows up at my house trying to sell me the monitor to test for Radon, he talks me through setting up the machine, when to pick it up and says: by the way this is what others are charging. I understand the science behind uranium and Radon but what I need is some training on using the equipment (hands on). I have no experience in testing for Radon.

It's one thing to set up the equipment per what the salesman shows you to do. The real question is do you need a license to perform any radon task to the public in your state? If you have a license requirement, you need to learn for that exam. After that setting everything up is easy.

120 Days. Great question.

One more thing on that: Every single buyer that has called me for a free extension while they do an Alpha Track test has been granted it at no charge.

Beat me to it. The good news about Radalink is that you don't have to buy 20 machines for your busy season- you can lease 20 in season and only have 4 out of season. Use only what you need, pay only for what you need.

Not only is the lease fee below what you would pay in labor to someone to interpret all your results and send out reports, you never have to pay for calibration, maintenance, or replacement units.

To each his own, and believe me the first time I heard this offer I thought it was a higher cost, but then I put it on paper and realized it is actually the most cost effective and efficient radon testing method out there. Not to mention the most accurate.

What are the cons?

Yes charcoal tests are inexpensive, they also look cheap. People are looking for quality largely. The Radalink monitors have fraud / tampering detectors on them and the value that provides is very high. When I tell the client that the monitor will let the lab know what time and date it gets bumped, change in temperature, air pressure or has a loss of power to the outlet (battery backup just in case) they client knows that they are being well taken care of.

I can't speak to the VA licensing exam, but the IL test is very rough. I usually do well on (important) test. I walked out of that one scared that I failed. I was able to pass the test 1st time around with a 70% which was the cut off. I know several inspectors and radon testers that have failed it multiple times.

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck when you decide to go that route.

I stopped using charcoal radon test kits after a few high tests came back and they were challenged by another inspector with a CRM machine. It was hard to argue with that.

I have found the charcoal kits come back about 1 pci/l lower then crms in almost every instance
