Methamphetamine Testing

I had a REA call me today and ask about Meth testing. She said she did a google search and my company came up as a result. I told her I do not currently offer it, but if needed I could do the training and get certified quickly if her client wants it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Maybe any advice?

I use ALS laboratory in SLC. Looks like there is one in Naperville, IL.

Your lab is 2.5 hours away so you may have to overnight it or find a closer lab.

I charge $150 to do the test and the lab charges me $70 to analyze.

I called and talked to ProLabs to see if they do it. The guy I talked to told me not to do it because of high liability. What are your thoughts on the liability issue?

Home inspections themselves have liability. But I see you are doing them still.

I got to the point where so many people were asking me to do it that I just had to start.

I've done 43 meth tests so far this year.

Where did you get your training from? I did my inspection stuff with AHIT. I called them and talked to them about the course they offer. It's $195 for a home workbook that I would need to take a proctored exam to become certified.

In Utah you don't need training or certification.

The laboratory taught me how to collect the samples.

The lab you get the kit from will teach you how to use it. You don't want to test known clandestine labs.

I don't know what he meant...I can't even guess what he could've meant.

Maybe there's no need to test if you walk into a house and already know it's a lab?

In most states you aren't allowed to test (or clean) known clandestine labs without being certified or licensed.

Ok, that makes a little more sense now. I've been trying to find out if IL requires a certification, but no one seems to know. I have a few more phone calls to make and can hopefully get a definite yay or nay soon.

After making many phone calls of several business days, talking to maybe 15 different agencies, someone finally told me there is no known certification for Meth testing in IL. I originally talked to AHIT and they told me a cert. was required. And that also comes after buying their workbook for $195. I know they are a business and they want to make money. That is why I did my own checking on the cert.

So then you pretty much need to learn how to do it properly and find a lab or place that gives you test kits and analyzes samples.

I have found two labs (ASL and EMSL) that sell kits and do the testing. I need to compare apples to apples and figure out which one will be best for me. As for learning procedures, I think the labs also have the training which as far as I can see is super simple.
